About AFCA

The American Football Coaches Association was founded in 1922. The organization currently boasts more than 10,000 members worldwide, ranging from the high school to the professional ranks. The purpose of the AFCA is to maintain the highest possible standards in football and in the coaching profession and to provide a forum for the discussion and study of all matters pertaining to football.

The American Football Coaches Foundation was established by the AFCA in 1998 to fund its education mission. Contributions generated by The Foundation ensure that the coaching community has the finest possible professional development and educational tools—now and in the future. These tools are accessible and affordable to coaches from high schools, colleges, and universities—small and large, rich and poor, big city or small town, and everything in between.

Football coaches have a unique opportunity to teach and influence not only their players but also their student bodies and communities. With this in mind, it is imperative that coaches—AFCA members—strive to be the best they can be in all areas. Through the professional development opportunities afforded AFCA members, coaches have the ability to grow and improve in their professional and personal lives.

These opportunities have traditionally presented themselves at the AFCA Annual Convention, providing coaches with virtually limitless sessions, workshops, and chalk talks to learn from and network with leading coaches from all walks of football life. Drawing thousands of coaches each January, the convention is the gathering place for football coaches dedicated to improving their craft.

And just as football coaches strive for improvement and innovation, the AFCA is doing the same with its offerings. Through our relationship with the American Sport Education Program (ASEP), the AFCA is able to bring ASEP Bronze Level online courses to football coaches and award college credit for course participation. This is a tremendous learning opportunity for faculty-coaches as well as a convenient and cost-effective way to earn continuing education credit. The AFCA is excited about its alliance with ASEP, and we strongly encourage our coaches to take advantage of the benefits afforded to them through this partnership.
